Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, Congressman Blumenauer Unveil Streetcar |
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Congressman Earl Blumenauer unveiled the first Oregon-made streetcar at the South Waterfront in Portland on July 1 , 2009. The streetcar is the first constructed in America in the past 57 years. Other cities including Tuscon, Boise, and Seattle are looking to follow Portland's lead in using streetcars as convenient and environmentally friendly ways to get around town.

House Passes Historic Energy and Global Warming Bill
Washington, DC – Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) today voted in favor of
a historic energy and global warming bill, which passed the House by a
vote of 219-212. The American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES) is
the first legislation in history to put a cap on dangerous carbon
pollution and create a mechanism that will invest in clean, renewable
energy sources, new technologies, and low-carbon transit. Rep.
Blumenauer worked with the Energy and Committee to provide low-carbon
transit funding from zero to around $530 million per year, which over
time will become $1 billion per year.

Green Line MAX Provides Critical Transportation, Family-Wage Jobs |
|
On Tuesday June 30, 2009 Congressman Earl Blumenauer was one of the first Portlanders to hop on board TriMet's new MAX Green Line. The Green Line is the newest light rail route in the Portland Metro Area, and will extend from Clackamas Town center to Portland City Center.
In his remarks Congressman Blumenauer celebrated the federal funding match for the project as well as federal investment in several stimulus-funded projects that will make the MAX even better for Portland-area residents.
The construction of the MAX Green Line provides over 7,500 jobs in the Portland area.

Tax Credits for Home Windmills |
|
On Sunday June 28, 2009 Parade Magazine featured the a windmill tax credit that was the Rural Wind Energy Development Act, sponsored by Congressman Earl Blumenauer in the 110th Congress. It allows homeowners to receive a tax credit for installing a windmill to help power their homes. The legislation was eventually passed as part of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act in October 2008.
The market for small wind turbines that can generate enough juice to
power a home, farm, or small business grew by 78% in 2008, according to
the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA). A new 30% tax credit in
the federal economic-stimulus bill, combined with state and local
incentives, is likely to further expand the already booming market.
