This is absolutely wrong
Next week marks the 45th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s landmark Roe v. Wade decision – protecting a woman’s right to make her own personal medical decisions, including her decision whether or not to have an abortion.
It seems that House Republicans are determined to celebrate Roe v. Wade by forcing a vote on dangerous, anti-choice legislation that would intimidate medical professionals who provide abortion care. The bill – H.R. 4712 – would threaten physicians with severe, criminal penalties for providing abortion services.
This bill isn’t about safeguarding women’s health. Its sole purpose is to interfere with the most personal of health care decisions between a woman, her family, and her physician.
Preventing a woman’s doctor from offering professional skills that provides her with the safest and most appropriate medical care is absolutely wrong. I voted NO on H.R. 4712.
As women in my district and across the United States continue to express deep concerns about an unprecedented assault on women’s reproductive rights, bringing H.R. 4712 to the House Floor for a vote AT ALL, let alone the week before this historic anniversary decision, is outrageous.
I stand with women and will continue fighting to protect their right to choose.
