Rejecting Trump’s bigoted policy

Dear Friends,

In a tweetstorm today, Trump announced that transgender individuals will no longer be accepted or allowed to serve in the U.S. military. This reversal of an Obama administration policy change allowing transgender people to openly serve – a change that was long-overdue – is hateful discrimination at its worst.

In an attempt to score political points, Trump is dividing brave Americans who are willing to serve and sacrifice their lives for their country. This is shameful and cowardly.

This decision is not about national security. We’re safer and stronger with all qualified and dedicated Americans having the opportunity to serve.

It’s not about saving money – there are thousands of ways Trump could do that more efficiently and effectively.

And it's definitely not about fabricated and generalized claims of "disruption."

This is about discrimination, plain and simple, against an entire class of individuals who are protecting and defending our country. By prohibiting these Americans from serving, he’s undercutting the principles of democracy that our Armed Forces work to protect.

Today, and every day, I stand with the transgender community. We cannot stand for this sort of discrimination in our America.

Courage,
