Today we unveiled the People's Housing Platform

January 31, 2020
Everyone deserves the right to a safe, secure home—period. It's the foundation of our well-being and the federal government needs to do more to ensure everyone has access.
This has been one of my top priorities in Congress. I authored a report titled, "Locked Out: Reversing Federal Housing Failures and Unlocking Opportunity" that addresses this urgent issue facing communities across America.

My closest friends and allies and I have been hard at work to make housing a human right.
Last weekend, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib joined me in Portland to talk about some of the most complex challenges we face in our pursuit to fix this crisis. She saw first-hand how it was impacting our community. We heard from constituents, and we shared our ideas for federal solutions.
This week, I partnered with her and other members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus to unveil our People's Housing Platform — a groundbreaking, progressive housing framework that declares housing as a fundamental human right. Progressive champions: Reps. Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Pramila Jayapal all joined me to call on Congress to get back in the game of federal housing through meaningful investments in public housing, renter relief, combatting homelessness, and equitable home ownership policies.
We have much work to do, but the first step is establishing a shared commitment to solving the problem. The Congressional Progressive Caucus is leading the way. It's past time for the federal government to take bold action.
