An update in our fight to resist Donald Trump’s Muslim ban

January 30, 2017

Dear friends,

This weekend, we all watched in horror the immediate impact of Donald Trump’s cruel and unjustified executive order to turn away immigrants and refugees from predominantly Muslim countries.

Families are being torn apart and innocent people are being detained.

Donald Trump’s action is morally reprehensible and un-American. Not only that, it’s actually making us less safe and making it harder to fight terrorism. (Click here to read my statement on why this executive order is wrong and goes against our core values as a nation.)

I am reaching out to let you know that fighting to resist this hateful executive order is a priority for me and my office. My staff and I spent the weekend reaching out to Muslim and immigrant organizations in Portland, offering our support and services. Today, with colleagues, I am introducing legislation to block Donald Trump’s executive order.

I will continue to do everything I can to fight against this assault on the world’s most vulnerable and defend the values that make this nation great—including our proud tradition of offering protection and a new life to those fleeing persecution and war.
