Working to Keep Politics (and Bannon!) Out of the National Security Council

Dear friends,

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – there is no place for a white nationalist in the White House. And, there is absolutely no place for one on the National Security Council (NSC).

I’ve heard from hundreds of constituents who are deeply concerned by Donald Trump’s move to reorganize the National Security Council and provide a permanent position to Steve Bannon. I’m with you!

Steve Bannon is dangerous. We’re already seeing the horrific impact of his extremist views and role in the White House.

Trump says he wants to put “America first.” He says we need to make America safer. Diminishing the role of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Director of National Intelligence on the NSC, while giving a permanent position to a political advisor, does NOT make us safer.

This move is unprecedented and wrong – even top Republicans agree.

We need to keep politics (and Steve Bannon!) out of our National Security Council. That’s why this week, I joined Representative Stephanie Murphy (FL-07) to introduce legislation to prevent Steve Bannon, and anyone in a primarily political role, from serving on the National Security Council.

For the safety of all Americans, experts should be guiding U.S. national security decisions, not white nationalist hacks like Steve Bannon.

Courage,
