Blumenauer to Hold Town Hall on National Guard, Reserve Issues

August 20, 2004
Portland, Ore - Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) will host a Town Hall meeting for National Guard and Reserve members and their families on Monday, August 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Jackson Armory in Northeast Portland. In light of recent issues regarding the activation and use of Guard and Reserve units in Iraq, Blumenauer is hosting this public forum to hear from soldiers, family members, and people in the community about their concerns.

“I am very concerned about the extended tours of duty for our Guard and Reserve personnel,” said Blumenauer. “These are not only issues of life and death for our soldiers abroad, but also financial and emotional hardships for the families left behind.”

Joining Blumenauer will be Oregon National Guard Adjutant General Raymond Byrne and General Ken Ross from the Army Reserve. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and voice comments and concerns. They will also have the opportunity to share their personal insights and challenges connected with the recent deployments.
