Blumenauer Issues Statement on Commemoration of September 11th Attacks

September 11, 2002
WASHINGTON, D.C.---Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) issued the following statement on the commemoration of the September 11th attacks on America:

"Today it is important to take time to remember the heroes and victims of September 11th. That remembrance, however, should not cloud our evaluation of what has happened in the last year. Tragedy gave us an opportunity and a responsibility not just to deal with any additional threats to our families, but to use the vast wealth and power of the United States to be a leader and partner around the world. It appears though that this Congress has failed to move forward in a bipartisan manner to seize on this opportunity. The most fitting long-term memorial to September 11th will be if next year and in the years that follow, we can mark the anniversary with concrete progress at home and abroad on making our communities safe, health and economically secure."
