U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), chair of the House Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee, today released the following statement on the Biden administration’s decision to support waiving intellectual property protections for COVID-19 vaccines:

“Today’s announcement by the Biden administration is a critical step forward in the fight against COVID-19 and will be a game-changer in the global rush to put shots in arms and save lives. What’s happening in India right now has made clear that time is of the essence. I especially appreciate the leadership of U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai, who thoughtfully listened to stakeholders on all sides of this issue, including members of Congress, and helped push our country to make the righteous decision to put global health above Big Pharma profits. With millions of lives on the line, it is no question that is the right thing to do not just for our country, but for the entire world.”
