House Fails to Pass Amendment to Strip $485 million for F-35 Funding from Defense Bill

May 28, 2010

"The last thing we need is two engines for one plane, and eliminating this unnecessary program would have saved taxpayers $485 million this year alone," said Congressman Blumenauer. "This program is a perfect example of wasteful spending that Congress must begin to address, and I am disappointed that our amendment failed. I hope we can work in conference with the Senate to eliminate this program once and for all."

Rep. Blumenauer has sought to cut funding for the F-35 Extra Engine Program in previous years, and Secretary Gates and President Obama have repeatedly called for the elimination of this wasteful program.
