Rep. Blumenauer Releases Congressional Action Plan for Police Accountability
Today, Congressman Earl Blumenauer released a report highlighting the role Congress plays in reforming law enforcement policies nationwide. The report, titled “Police Accountability: Federal Policy Priorities for Ending Police Violence,” comes amidst nationwide calls for police reform following the murder of George Floyd by the Minneapolis Police Department.
“I have listened, discussed and solicited feedback from many community leaders here in Oregon and know that in order to make change we are going to need to have reforms at the federal, state, and local level, I pledge to be a partner on all three of these fronts,” wrote Blumenauer in the report. “We cannot legislate morality but we must restrain the worst expressions of racism and discrimination, change the culture, and provide a better future for all.”
