Washington, DC — Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) announced today that the US Department of Health and Human Services, through its Bureau of Primary Health Care, has awarded $553,780 to the Native American Rehabilitation Association of the Northwest (NARA) . The grant will be used to provide access to Primary Care for low income and uninsured Native Americans and Alaska Natives.

Washington, DC — The House of Representatives today overwhelmingly approved an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2004 Transportation Appropriations bill to restore the Transportation Enhancements program, the primary source of federal funding for bike and pedestrian facilities.

The President arrives in Portland Thursday to appear at a fundraising lunch, then travels to Central Oregon to tout the virtues of selective logging as a way to stave off wildfires.

Last week we saw an amazing level of participation in the first of what I hope will be an ongoing series of Mt. Hood summits. It certainly exceeded my expectation. I was heartened to see the diversity of ideas exchanged by 300 people at Timberline Lodge whose most common point of agreement is their passion for our regional treasure.

Washington, DC — Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) will be the official starter for the Providence Bridge Pedal bike ride on Sunday, August 10 at 6:45 a.m. Blumenauer has been a committed bike advocate throughout his career. He founded the Congressional Bike Caucus and has introduced legislation to encourage people to commute by bicycle.

Portland, OR — Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) announced today that three Oregon veterans will receive medals earned during WWII and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Two of these veterans will receive the Purple Heart, and a third veteran will receive his European Campaign Medal. The awards will be presented during a ceremony on Wednesday, August 6th at 10:30 a.m.

Portland, OR — Senator Gordon Smith (R-Ore.) and Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) applauded this week’s announcement by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that it will soon complete its update of 100-year floodplain maps in Johnson Creek. The maps are expected to be finished in December of this year.
